_______ had never seen such a beautiful place. She had never sat on such soft grass. She had never heard such an amazing song, either. She could smell the delicate cherry blossoms. It felt like a fairy tale, but even more happy. She smiled. Maybe she could sing, too.

“_______, are you still there?”

She was giddy. Who was calling her now and why? Why in the middle of such awesomeness?

“_______, it’s almost lunch time, get up!”

What? Who? Where?

She opened her eyes. Oh yes, she thought, I’m still here. So it was all just a dream of hers. She sighed. “Coming in fifteen minutes.” She got up, dressed and went straight to her seat at lunch table. She was too hungry to notice at first, but after a while, she realized it was too quiet. No one was talking.

“Wh’’s ‘ron’ pe’’le?” she tried to speak.

“What?” Lovino said, looking at her.

She swallowed before asking again. “I said ‘What’s wrong, people?’ Why aren’t you talking and- wait, where’s Ece?”

She had to be there, making jokes, teasing someone, but she wasn’t there.

“She… had to go.” Lovino’s amber eyes were fixed on his plate. He hadn’t been hungry at first either, but now all his appetite was gone. “There was a call and she needed to leave last night. You were sleeping, so she didn’t want to wake you up.”

_______ sensed something. Something much more worse and important than just a call. “Why did she go?”

Nobody wanted to answer. Even Feliciano was silent, nibbling on his slice of bread. He hadn’t touched his bowl of pasta. That must be doomsday.

“Did you do something to her?” _______ insisted.

“Of course we didn’t!” Antonio was angry. A bit. Then he became silent again.

_______ thought. What could have happened? Ece probably went home, she assumed. Why would she go home? Who was waiting for her? “…did something happen to her brother?”

Lovino’s fork fell onto the porcelain plate with a loud clink. Feliciano’s mouth dropped open. “How do you know?”

“Lucky guess. And she’s returning to Istanbul? I suppose her home’s there?”

“Yes, but-”

“That’s enough for me. She must be at home now. What’s her number?” She stole Feliciano’s cell phone rapidly and found the number, then dialed it. “…not answering.” Sighing, she gave the phone back.

“Wait, she’s not answering? She always answers her phone calls.” Lovino stood up. “I’ll check it out.” He walked out of the room with fast steps, _______ following right behind. “She always answers. Something must have happened.”

“Maybe she couldn’t find an earlier flight and had to turn off her phone because she’s on plane now?” _______ suggested, trying to be calm.

“Her phone is on, even if she’s on plane,” Lovino said, not stopping. “Here.” He didn’t bother to knock on the metal door. “Matt, I need your help to check something.”

A young blond with glasses was sitting in front of a computer, next to others. He turned to look at them. “Sure. What do you need?” It was almost impossible to hear his voice.

“I must learn if this phone is available.” Lovino wrote the number on a paper quickly, then turned to _______. “This is Matthew, a very intelligent boy from Canada. He’s running away from his brother, so we’re letting him stay here. Matt, this is _______.”

“So you’re the famous _______? I’ve heard a lot about you,” Matt said silently, smiling a bit. He was typing something at the same time. “Aren’t you too good to be a part of the mafia?”

“What about you?” she asked innocently.

“…good point.” He typed a few more words and looked at the screen. “Unavailable. Wait, I’ll try to locate it.”

“Good. Do it as fast as possible, please.”

Matt typed more numbers. His fingers were so rapid that _______ couldn’t follow them. “Here, boss.” Lovino leaned to see the map, and so did _______.

“That’s the old construction area at the end of the street, isn’t it?” Lovino asked, frowning. “Yes, it is. Wait, that’s…”

“What?” _______ asked impatiently.

“We’ve been hearing rumors about some gangsters who are there,” Lovino explained quickly. “We aren’t sure if those are true, but if they are…”

“So you’re telling us that Ece might be kept there?” Antonio asked behind them with a harsh voice.

“Maybe, maybe not,” Matt said. “But are you going to have that risk? That’s the question.”

It was a pretty damn good question.

“…we don’t have time to lose.” _______ straightened up. “Even if it’s a little possibility… I’m in.” She turned to the door to leave. Antonio headed to the shooting range to get some guns, closely followed by Lovino.

“Are you coming, boss?” Antonio asked Lovino while opening the door. “It’s a two-men job.”

They looked inside the room just to find _______ with two guns in both her hands. “_______, what are you doing?” Antonio asked.

“I’m easily worth two men. You can help too, if you like.” She didn’t wait for an answer and left.

Antonio looked at Lovino to see what he was going to say. Lovino did the same, then suddenly smiled in a devilish way. “Let’s see what we can do.” He grabbed two guns and some bullets, Antonio did the same, then they both ran out of the shooting range.

Outside the main gate, _______ was looking around her like crazy.

“Duh, hide them inside your jacket or something, girl,” Antonio said crossly. He pointed at his right. “This way.”

~

Half of the construction area was unfinished, but the other half was a well-built, two-storey building. Inside, on the first floor, a woman inside black leather clothes was tied to a chair, surrounded by men.

“Who are you?” one of the gangsters asked angrily. He was getting dangerously bored of asking this question again and again.

“I told you, my name is Jane,” the woman said once again.

“Yes, and you also said your surname was Austen!”

“It is Austen,” she said indifferently.

“We know it’s an author’s name, damn it!”

“What can I do if she has stolen my name?” she asked this time.

“SHE’S BEEN DEAD FOR AGES!”

“She was alive, then she died. What can we do? What can I do sometimes?” was her reply.

“…what?”

“Nothing.”

“Enough! If she refuses to tell why she was in mafia’s place, then make her regret it!” the gangster with a smoke yelled.

With this order, two of the men approached her and started punching her in the stomach. A few minutes later, they stepped back. She was coughing up blood. They waited to see if she was still able speak. Finally, she took a deep breath and lifted her head. “I REGRET NOTHING!”

The head of the gangsters facepalmed. “Forget it. This woman is crazy. She was probably there because of some stupid chores or something.”

He wasn’t aware of the three who were watching them. _______ couldn’t stand still. “What the fuck are we waiting for?!”

“We’re waiting for them to distract,” Antonio responded.

“Then why don’t you go do something to distract them, damn it!” she whispered furiously.

“_______, we’re lacking of number already. We have to be careful,” he explained.

“Well then, I’ll go first!” the girl stood up.

Antonio caught her arm. “What do you think you’re doing?!”

“Being good for something!” She pulled her phone out of her jacket. “You know… I’ve always wanted to try karaoke. While I’m doing it, you guys have to be quick, because I’m not a very good athlete… Let’s see what I’ve got here now… off you go.” She started to look for something in her phone. “Gotcha. You’re still here? Get lost!” Both men ran to other side of the building, to use a window as an entrance. They waited for the girl’s voice.

_______ cleared her throat. She was very near to a window, there was no way these men couldn’t hear her. She turned up the volume before starting the song. She gulped and started it. For the first twenty seconds, it was just melody. At the exactly right point, the two cousins heard her crazily high voice: “LA – LA – LA – LA – LASAGNA!”

Lovino looked at Antonio’s astonished face. They both had a ‘WTF’ expression on their faces. Then they snapped out of the shock and looked inside the building.

The gangsters could hear the crazy girl singing, too. Her voice was going up and down at the right points, but the song itself was weird, and she was singing with her all heart and soul. “YOU WANT-A SOME-A LASAGNA MAGNIFICO, OR-A MAYBE SPAGHETTI!”

The head of the gangsters looked up the windows, but he couldn’t see the girl. “What the hell is going on here?” he shouted, then ran to the nearest window.

“AY, YOU SUPPER IS-A READY NOW, WHERE YOU GO – MAMMA MIA BAMBINO! MAMMA MIA BAMBINO, ‘SAMATTA YOU, ‘SAMATTA YOU, ‘SAMATTA YOU!”

“Who is this?” the gangster yelled with a great anger. His men were panicking. Of course they were, because _______ was good at hiding. She was invisible at the point she was standing. She thought of running too, but then she couldn’t sing well. She doubted if she could now.

Suddenly, one of the gangsters appeared at the other corner of the building. _______ saw him and sang one more line of the song with all the capacity of her lungs before starting to run. “YOU SHOULD-A TASTE MY LASAGNA!”

At the last syllable her voice shook and Lovino and Antonio understood that she was seen. “Now!”

They both jumped into the building at the same time. Ece was looking at them with a perfect ‘WTF’ face since she was confused by _______’s impressive and deep (!) song. Lovino couldn’t see the back of the chair she was tied, but he knew her hands were tied tightly. Otherwise, she would have kicked these gangsters’ asses already.

Meanwhile, _______ was stubborn about continuing the song while running at the same time. “AY, YOU NO LIKE-A LASAGNA?!” She stopped the song on the phone, but kept singing because she knew it well. “THAT’S OKAY TOO, HOW ABOUT-A CALZONE?” She pulled one of her guns out, but she needed to stop and aim at the man. And if she stopped, she would be dead without doubt. While thinking all these things and running, she forgot the song. “FUUUU-”

She couldn’t save them much time, but Antonio and Lovino were managing good enough. The only problem was that they were just two people and against them, there were at least eight monster-like men. Lovino could fight perfectly and so could Antonio, but they weren’t as bulky as the gangsters. While Lovino was thinking how to get rid of at least two men, he jumped with a loud crashing. He didn’t have time to think before he fired his gun towards the flying person. However, he later saw that it was _______ who suddenly decided it was best to jump inside through the nearest window. Luckily, Lovino’s bullet hadn’t hurt her badly – just a little scratch on the upper arm.

Her tremendous entry distracted the gangsters once again. Both Antonio and Lovino had time to shoot and get rid of four other men. Only two men and the head of them were left there. “Who the hell are you?!” he asked while trying to shoot them.

Oh good, _______ thought. First shoot, then ask questions. Wasn’t he the cleverest?

Ece was trying to speak, but only thing what could be heard was a long “Hmph-hmmhmhmph-hmmm…” _______ didn’t pay much attention, because her arm was aching and she had to help. She aimed at the second gangster and shot before he could notice. She had shot him in… somewhere important. He couldn’t be a problem anymore, so she turned, planning to shoot the other one, but a big gun was leant on her nose. “Stop right there, girl,” the head of the gangsters said with a smirk. When Lovino heard him and turned to look, he was caught by the other one, who was aiming at Antonio.

_______ wasn’t able to react at first, the only thing she could do was looking at the gun. Then she got her speaking ability back. “You’ve got a lovely gun there, big fellow. Could I borrow it sometime?”

“Okay. Seriously, what’s wrong with the women I’ve seen today?!” the man shouted at the top of his lungs.

“Sorry to make you sad,” _______ murmured innocently. “But…”

“But what?”

She was silent for a minute. “You know… there’s something I’ve always wanted to do before I die…”

Ece tried to speak again, but all her effort went away with the soft wind coming through the window.

Lovino, on the other hand, suspected that _______ was planning something again. This girl had the courage of a mad man. He stopped struggling. Antonio was also stiff.

“I thought…” _______ bit her lip, searching for words. “…maybe I could…”

“What?”

“Never mind.” She shook her head. Lovino didn’t understand what she was trying to do, but he suddenly got it. She was still trying to distract them so that Lovino or Antonio could do something. Lovino had to be quick and find a good idea.

He did find an idea, which wasn’t very bright, but it could work.

Lovino looked up to the window suddenly as if he had heard something. “What?” the gangster asked crossly.

“I think there’s someone up there.” He lifted his chin to show a slim shadow.

“Stop lying kiddo,” the man said, but he was looking at the shadow.

Lovino turned to Antonio, but he didn’t have to. Antonio had already shot the man on the leg, making him fall down. _______ had also followed up the advantage and kicked the man who was holding her tightly. She knelt down and punched him in the stomach twice to make sure he stopped at least for a while. Surprisingly, they really heard some footsteps and soon, the half-done building was full of Lovino’s men.

“Are you okay, boss?” Antonio asked.

He nodded. He was better than okay. “You?”

“Same.” They both looked over Ece’s side, who was talking while _______ was trying to untangle the amazingly thick ropes Ece was tied by.

“You know,” Ece was saying, “if those were handcuffs, I could have got rid of them already. I’m good with handcuffs, you know?” _______ looked at her face in disbelief. Ece laughed. Right then, _______ managed to untangle the ropes which were tying Ece’s hands.

“You can take care of the rest by yourself then?”

“Sure.”

_______ walked up to Antonio and Lovino. “I think I wasn’t bad at all,” she said, ignoring Lovino.

“Nope,” Antonio smirked. “That was pretty good.”

“Good. Good to hear that,” _______ said calmly. Then, out of the blue, she slapped Lovino hard on the face.

Lovino couldn’t breath for a moment. Then he recovered from his shock and shouted. “WHY THE FUCK DID YOU JUST DO THAT?!”

“BECAUSE LIFE ISN’T FAIR, THAT’S WHY!” _______ shouted back. She flipped her hair and walked away.

“What was that now?” Lovino asked Antonio this time.

“She bitchslapped you.”

“?!”

~

_______ sighed. She hadn’t had time to admire the beauty of Remus’s garden before. There were cherry blossoms around her now. They were wobbling gracefully with the soft breeze.

She rubbed her arm pensively. It hadn’t recovered yet, but she didn’t care. At least it wasn’t aching as much as it did at first. But now, she wasn’t thinking of it.

She smiled without realizing. Remus had talked to her two days before. She could stay there as long as she wanted to. Of course she needed more training, but she would stay anyway. She was good enough to stay. Then Remus had patted her head and called for Lovino’s other cousin –whose name _______ could never remember– to bring her some Italian food and wine.

_______ was dreaming of the future she was going to have when she heard soft footsteps behind her. Someone was walking towards the tree which she was sitting under.

Lovino quietly came and sat down next to her. “Do you mind?”

She shook her head.

They hadn’t talked to each other for two days. To be honest, Lovino was feeling both guilty –because of hurting her– and angry –because of the slap he had received– but now, he swallowed his pride and decided to talk to her. The way she looked captured his attention.

“Were you stargazing?” he asked curiously.

“Hm? Oh, no. I’m not so romantic… I was just enjoying the garden and the sakuras,” she said, pointing at the cherry blossoms with her hand. This motion made her wound ache. “Ouch.” She rubbed her arm again. “Why are you asking?”

“I just wondered.” He looked at her arm, then stood up. “I’ll be right back.” When he returned, he had a bottle of medicine and a cloth in his hand. He knelt down next to her. “Let me take care of it.”

_______ didn’t resist. Lovino unwrapped the bandage on her arm and checked it. He opened the bottle and poured some of the medicine onto the piece of cloth. “Sorry for your injury,” he said quietly. “I didn’t see it was you…”

“It’s okay.”

Lovino looked up at her face for a moment. She really seemed calm. Lovino leant over her arm again. “This won’t hurt.” He pressed the cloth on her open wound and the girl screamed over the incredible pain. “See? I lied.” He slowly rubbed her arm, then wrapped it carefully with a new and clean piece of bandage. “Better now?”

“Better now.”

They both became quiet. They both felt like they had much to say, but neither of them knew what these things were.

“…why did you slap me? Really.”

_______ wasn’t expecting him to ask this. “I… don’t know. Really. I just don’t know.”

Actually she did. And after she had slapped him, she thought he looked cute when his cheek was slightly red, even though she wasn’t going to admit that. Never. Ever.

“So you like slapping people for no reason?” Lovino asked sarcastically. “Well, it’s great you warned me early.”

“Oh shut up,” she shook her head.

“You know… it’s also great to know you.” _______ looked at his face in disbelief. “What? I mean it.”

“Why would I believe?”

“Because I mean it. Because Ece told me to give you a chance.”

She stopped. “A chance for what?”

“For everything.” He leant over her, his amber eyes shining mischievously. “You know, lovers are Italian in heaven.”

“Oh really?”

He leant a bit more, their noses almost touching. “I would kiss you… but I have to ruin the moment now because I don’t like spectators,” he said with a still calm face.

Of course they had spectators. As Lovino remembered a bit late, his bedroom’s window had a perfect view of the garden, from where Ece was stalking them along with Antonio.

Lovino suddenly turned and shot the window, making both their stalkers scream. Luckily, he missed. Ece stuck her head out of the window, still cheerful. “Bad, bad Lovi~”

“STOP CALLING ME THAT!”

Antonio’s head was visible too now. “Calm down, both of you. Duh,” he said. “_______?”

“What?” she asked.

“He’s liked you from the beginning, you know, just like you-”

“SHUT UP!”

“My, my, won’t you let me speak for a moment? Well, if you’re this angry, I’ll get straight to the point…” He took a deep breath. “…kids, it’s important to keep the passion alive. Do whatever you like, whenever you like, wherever you like –not in my car, please– but not at first night…”

“Give me that,” _______ said quietly and Lovino handed her his gun without the two trolls noticing. She rapidly lifted the gun and shot the window, breaking it into a million pieces and scaring their friends.

“Pretty good,” Lovino said, nodding calmly.

“WHAT ARE-” Antonio started freaking out.

“Whatever,” ______ said, turning her head away. She stood up. “If you need me, I’ll be in my room, talking on phone about how awesome I am.” She slowly and elegantly walked to the door.

Lovino smiled. He had noticed her wink before entering the tall building. He also noticed another thing before following her up to her room.

This girl was good for everything in his life.
Well, here's the fifth and last chapter of my first series. Actually I was planning to post this on Saturday/Sunday but when I returned from Greece (yay for school projects!) my family had just moved the house and the Internet wasn't available until today. I hope you like it.

This chapter goes for my roses, Tuğçe, İlayda and Nihal, from my school. (Never mind 'my rose' part, it's just a silly inner joke...)

And notes about this chapter.. "What can I do sometimes?" was a sentence by someone on TV about football and nobody could really make head or tail of it, but it's a joke in Turkey now. You can use it when you're desperate or just plain troll.
And yes, you just had to sing that song. I just love it.
And yes again, you just bitchslapped a mafia. What can I say? You're the awesomest.

Hetalia and all its characters belong to Hidekaz Himaruya.
